EV Tuesday Week 209

EV Tuesday Week 209

It's EV Tuesday!

20th January 2026

Hello EV Tuesday readers!

So here we are on day 2,343 of January, why does it always feel like the longest month!! Hasn't the weather been interesting? Have many of our readers had snow? Here at head office we have managed to dodge the snow so far.

Hopefully you have managed to pre-warm your car and have it de-iced for when you get in it, it is certainly needed at the moment. Anyhow, this week we have a great app to help navigate your trips and to find EV charging points on your route, we have a great podcast to listen to and a programme to watch on BBC 2.

Sit back, relax and make your way through this weeks' EV Tuesday newsletter.

We will be posting this to our social media channels including Twitter & Reddit (check out r/evcables subreddit). If you have access to our blog, you will get an extra item :)

Get involved and give us any ideas in the comments, they may well get used next week!

Right, ready.....steady.........GO!!

Have a great week everyone and happy reading!

1. EV APP OF THE WEEK: GOOGLE MAPS

Explore and navigate the world with confidence using Google Maps. Find the best routes with live traffic data and real-time GPS navigation for driving, walking, cycling and public transport. Discover over 250 million businesses and places – from restaurants and shops to everyday essentials – with photos, reviews and helpful information. Find where your nearest charge point is on your route.

2. EV NEWS: EV POWERED

Chancellor planning charging tax cuts to boost EV appeal. The UK Treasury is considering cutting VAT on public charging amid fears that recently announced taxes on EVs could harm demand. Chancellor Rachel Reeves is reportedly looking at reducing VAT and network charges to reduce on-the-road costs for EV owners.

3. EV TIP: PRE CONDITION YOUR CABIN

One of the lesser-known features of electric cars, pre-conditioning allows you to pre-heat or pre-cool the car’s cabin before you start your journey. In the winter, it will heat the cabin, as well as demist and defrost windows. Ideally, you should pre-condition while your EV is plugged in at home, so that the battery is not used to warm up the car, which reduces your overall mileage.

4. EV PODCAST: EVERYTHING ELECTRIC

EV Sales Aren’t Collapsing – 2025 Wrapped & Our 2026 Predictions! Join Robert Llewellyn, Jack Scarlett, and Imogen Bhogal for a special year-end wrap-up as they take a mystery tour through the biggest moments of 2025, from unforgettable shoots, to the clean tech stories that really mattered, and share their bold predictions for what’s coming in 2026.

5. EV REVIEW: ELECTRIFYIING

Sony Honda Mobility

Sony and Honda first decided to get together and make a car back in 2023. Now, these are two brilliant, innovative Japanese brands, so the idea of them collaborating to make a car is a great idea. The joint venture they've set up together – called Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) – has come up with this, the SHM Afeela 1. And we've been to see it!
