EV Tuesdays: Week 37
26th July 2022

Happy Tuesday EV Owners!

A new week is upon us already and we have a cracking line up for you this week. Each week we will bring to you 5 different tools, tutorials, podcasts, pretty much anything we can find to help you with your electric car.

Feel free to let us know if there is anything in particular you want to know about....we will get our little fingers tapping at the internet for you and see what we come up with.

Don't forget we will be posting these on our social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, Reddit (check out r/evcables subreddit), head over and give us a follow, like or an upvote. If it is an extra item you would like, sign up to our blog right here. Remember to pop us a message or leave a comment with some feedback on what we provide. Tell us what you like, what you don't like and what you would like more of.

Until then, grab a drink, click on the links below and enjoy this weeks 5 items.

1. EV APP of the Week: EV Hotels

We think this app will prove to be very useful, especially those travelling on business or leisure. It is a Worldwide App to help find and reserve hotels with Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities. Do let us know if you have visited any on the list and what your views are on them.

2. EV News: EU Courier Journal

Fact check: Electric vehicles put no strain on power grid, experts say. The claim: Charging electric vehicles contributes to an unstable power grid

3. EV Tip: Consider Others When Charging in Public

Look after public charging points –Treat public charging infrastructure with just as much care and respect as you would your own charging solutions at home. That will keep it in optimal working order to provide fast and flawless charging for everyone. When you’re finished charging, put the connector back in its receptacle and hang the cable as neatly as possible on its hooks to avoid a tripping hazard.

  • Don’t use EV charging points as a parking spot

An EV charging point is for charging, not parking – so don’t treat it as a personal all-day parking spot.

  • Don’t hog the charger

Likewise, don’t hog the charger for longer than necessary when you’re charging your vehicle. Think about how much you need to get to your next destination – if it doesn’t require 100% it would be courteous to vacate the spot for someone else to use.

  • Never unplug another vehicle

When using public charging points, it’s crucial to take other people’s needs into consideration. Never unplug another driver’s EV, no matter how long you think they’ve been there.

4. EV Question: UK Vehicle Electric Owners Group

Thanks to Julian Kemp, a member of the UK Vehicle Electric Owners Group on Facebook for asking this question.  Let us know your thoughts.

Now that’s a new one I haven't heard before! “Electric cars use 25 times more electricity than a fridge in an hour! And electricity/energy has gone through the roof!” Is comparing an EV to a fridge a sensible comparison - discuss!

5. EV Podcast: Fully Charged

Stella Vita is the World's first ever solar powered campervan capable of a staggering 600 Km on a single charge! Aptly described as a "self-sustaining house on wheels" it comes kitted out with a double bed, sofa, kitchen area, a shower, sink and toilet!

6. EV News: Electrek

Taiga Motors has started deliveries of its Orca personal electric watercraft, basically an electric jet ski, and we got a chance to try it. It’s pure unadulterated fun on the water.

Until next time. Have a fantastic week!
