A new week is upon us and we have a cracking line up for you this week. Each week we will bring to you 5 different tools, tutorials, podcasts, pretty much anything we can find to help you with your electric car.

1. EV App of the Week EV8

This is like an EV suitability test for those considering going electric. Launched by the UK government, EV8 Switch shows you if transitioning to an EV is the right option by outlining how to reduce your carbon footprint, how much money you could save and by making bespoke EV recommendations.

For the app to work, you have to compare EVs against your existing vehicle, so it monitors and logs the journeys you take in your current vehicle for 14 days to unlock personalised insights, advice and recommendations.

One of the best features is its ‘Switchability Score’ that you receive after the 14 day challenge as this indicates how suitable an EV would be for your needs.

2. EV Question What do you think of the state of public chargers?

A common complaint you hear from electric vehicle owners is about the sorry state of public EV charging: broken chargers, rubbish software, busted screens. But a lot of this is anecdotal, and it can be hard to find any rigorous studies that capture the current state of EV charging in the US. What are your thoughts?

3. EV Tip Get advice from the community

Get advice from the EV community. My top tip when planning an EV journey is to take advice from other EV drivers who have been there before,” says Melanie Shufflebotham.

“Most EV brands have a forum where you can seek advice from drivers of the same car, such as the Nissan Leaf Owners forum, the Kia e-Niro Owners forum and many more.”

She continues: “Also, when you are planning your journey, make sure you check out any comments from Zap-Map users for valuable info. On Zap-Map you can check out the chat channel on individual charge points, and you will see feedback on charge experience and other info, such as whether there is a coffee shop nearby – plus pictures to help you locate the charger.

“And don’t forget to check-in on Zap-Map when you charge to help others!”

4. EV News Auto Trader

For the first time ever, electric vehicles (EVs) are predicted to outsell diesel cars in the UK this year, according to SMMT (one of the largest trade bodies in the UK). And whilst the cost of EVs steadily drops and public charging more widespread, ‘range anxiety’ (the fear of running out of charge on the road) still holds many people back from switching to EVs.

We take readers through everything they need to know:

The map covers the whole of the UK – useful for planning long-distance EV journeys!
Filter the map according to charger type compatibility (e.g. CHAdeMO) as well as locate fast charge and ultra-rapid charge stations if you’re in a hurry.
Use the postcode finder to easily find the nearest charging point and know how much it will cost to charge.

Aside from being a useful tool for electric car owners, the map also shares:
