2. EV NEWS: ELECTRIC CAR SCHEME

The UK Government’s new Electric Car Grant scheme launched on 16 July 2025 - offering up to £3,750 off the cost of qualifying EVs under £37,000. And when you combine this with salary sacrifice savings of up to 50%, many drivers could save more than £7,500 a year on a new electric car.

The grant uses a two-tier structure based on environmental criteria. Cars with the greenest credentials (Band One) get the full £3,750 grant. Others still qualify for £1,500. We’ve listed all 50+ electric cars that could be eligible under the new rules - so you can get ahead of the game. But we’re still waiting on official confirmation from the Department for Transport and vehicle manufacturers about which cars will definitely qualify.

3. EV TIP: AVOID DRIVING DURING EXTREME TEMPERATURES

Extreme temperatures, whether excessively hot or cold, can adversely affect your EV’s battery efficiency and, as a result, your car’s range. High heat can accelerate battery degradation, while extreme cold can reduce your battery’s capacity temporarily.

Modern EVs devote some energy to regulate their EV battery’s temperature, heating or cooling off the battery to stay within an optimal temperature range. If possible, park your EV in a garage or a shaded area to minimize exposure to harsh weather conditions.

5. EV REVIEW: TOP SPEED

2026 BMW iX

It's been about four years since BMW launched its second-ever mass-produced battery electric vehicle, the iX. It followed in the footsteps of the iconic i3 as the Bavarian automaker continued expanding on its all-electric aspirations.

Although it arrived to mixed reception, mainly regarding its appearances, its polarizing style and design couldn't hide the fact that the iX is a damn good car and electric vehicle at that. Despite being hard on the eyes, the iX rewarded with an excellent driving experience, futuristic technology, and outstanding performance both as a driver's car and an EV. It's one of the few automotive examples where you just can't judge a vehicle based on its looks.

Until next time. Have a fantastic week!
