EV Tuesday Week 142

It's EV Tuesday!

17th September 2024

Good morning EV Tuesday readers
This week we have been busy in the office and the warehouse preparing and packing up all your orders. At the same time we have been researching what we can add to our EV Tuesday newsletter for you.
We have found a great app to help with charging, an interesting Podcast from our favourite channel Fully Loaded and a great bit of information on the Best Top 10 cars to buy if you want to avoid Tesla.
So sit back, settle down and have a read of this week's EV Tuesday.
We will be posting this to our social media channels including Facebook, Twitter & Reddit (check out r/evcables subreddit). If you have access to our blog, you will get an extra item :)

Right, ready.....steady.........GO!!

Feedback, Requests, Questions?
As always, please give us feedback on Twitter. Which item is your favourite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Just send a tweet to @ev_cables and put #EVTuesdays at the end so we can find it.

Have a great week everyone and happy reading!

1. EV APP OF THE WEEK: EVYVE

Make car charging simple with the evyve app. Find charging stations in your area and check live charge point information including availability and performance. Pay in just a couple of clicks and monitor your usage.

2. EV NEWS: TOP GEAR

Mercedes-Benz is developing very juicy solid-state batteries with 80 per cent more EV range. Is the Solstice battery the power-dense solid-state silver bullet we’ve all been waiting for? For over a year, Mercedes-Benz has been collaborating with a company called Factorial Energy and together, they’ve refined the Solstice. And the Solstice will help Mercedes-Benz in its aims to have solid-state batteries in its cars by 2030.

3. EV TIP: CHARGING IN THE RAIN

You can charge in the rain, you can take an electric car through a car wash and if you have to traverse a flooded road, you won't be electrocuted (just make sure you adhere to the car's wading depth - check your manual for details). Meanwhile, the standards for electric car charge points say the points must have a minimum waterproofing rating of IP44, which means they should be protected from water splashes from any angle - more than sufficient for all rain conditions

4. EV PODCAST: FULLY CHARGED

Can Electric Cars Ever Bridge the Political Divide?! with Mike Murphy. In this episode of the Fully Charged SHOW Podcast we dive into the heart of the political debate surrounding electric vehicles with a unique perspective. Our guest, Mike Murphy is a seasoned Republican strategist and proud EV owner who is challenging the divide between Democrats and Republicans via the EV Politics Project. This initiative aims to bridge the partisan gap and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by understanding the key drivers underpinning electric vehicle sentiment and perception.

5. EV REVIEW: ELECTRIFYING

Kia EV3

The Kia EV3 is an all-electric ‘B-segment SUV’, which is industry speak for ‘a small-ish, SUV-ish hatchback.’ At 4.3-metres long, it’s a touch smaller than the Kia Niro EV, bigger than the Jeep Avenger and a very similar size to the VW ID.3 and Volvo EX30. This is an important car for Kia because compact SUVs like this make up almost a third of all new cars sold in Europe and from our first look we think the EV3 is great all rounder that may well become the car to beat in its class.

6. EV TOP 10: THE GUARDIAN

The 10 best electric cars to buy if you want to avoid Tesla. Elon Musk is never far from a headline these days, from his recent inflammatory posts about the far-right riots in the UK to his endorsement of Donald Trump for president. But his increasingly toxic rhetoric is having a knock-on effect: some Tesla owners are starting to rethink whether they should own his electric cars any more. Sales fell in July for the second straight quarter.

Until next time. Have a fantastic week!
