1. EV APP OF THE WEEK: WHEN TO PLUG IN

National Grid’s WhenToPlugIn app tells you the cleanest times of day to use electricity, so you can make smarter energy choices at home and help to fight climate change. The app shows you the live carbon intensity forecast in Great Britain, letting you know when the electricity in your home will be cleanest over the next 48 hours to help you plan your electricity usage.

2. EV NEWS: AUTOCAR

BMW 1 Series to be reinvented as radical EV hatchback. BMW's Neue Klasse platform will be used for new i1 hatch - and a taller i3 replacement. BMW has given the green light to new electric i1 and i2 models, according to sources close to the German car maker. Already in development at the company’s FIZ R&D centre in Munich, the two new models will be sold alongside updated versions of today’s combustion-powered 1 Series and 2 Series when they arrive later this decade.

3. EV TIP: EXPLORE COMMUNITY CHARGING

If installing a home charging point simply isn’t an option for you, don’t despair. There are alternatives. For instance, you might find it helpful to look into peer-to-peer charging networks such as Zap-Home. The Zap-Home network shows the home charge points of Zap-Map users who have decided to share them with other EV drivers. Charge point details are visible only to registered Zap-Map users, and owners can offer their home charge point under their own conditions. Some owners choose to offer charging for free, with others charging a small fee. You may well be pleasantly surprised to see how many Zap-Home points are in your area.

4. EV PODCAST: BBC

Electric Cars: Made in China? Could the UK soon be awash with cheap EVs from the industry's global superpower? Evan Davis and guests discuss how Chinese firms are shaking up the electric car market.
Evan Davis and guests discuss the UK's dilemma around Chinese EVs - do we open our doors to the competition, which might mean cheaper electric cars for consumers and a quicker transition to net zero, or should the government follow the USA and EU in considering import restrictions to protect domestic car-makers?

5. EV REVIEW: PARKERS

Mercedes-Benz eSprinter

Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric van review. When it first came out there was plenty in its favour in some areas, but it was hampered by a short range of just 96 miles – something that was far short of the best electric vans. This has been comprehensively addressed with the 2024 update. Thanks to the addition of a monster 113kWh battery it now boasts an official maximum range of 271 miles – something that takes the Sprinter to the top of its class in an area where it was previously poor.
