1. EV APP OF THE WEEK: EVYVE

Evyve are Zapmap’s ‘Up and Coming Network’ for 2024. The en-route ‘Up and Coming Network’ this year is Evyve, a new network that already has over 100 charging locations and 220 devices across the UK, most of them higher-powered devices.

2. EV NEWS: BBC NEWS

Former Frankie & Benny's may become EV charging hub. A disused chain restaurant could be transformed into a drive-through eatery and electric vehicle (EV) charging station. BP Pulse submitted plans for a former Frankie & Benny's site in Norfolk. Proposals submitted to Great Yarmouth Borough Council, external showed the scheme contained 12 charging points, and 22 spaces without EV chargers. It would require a plant room to be demolished and a service road to be installed for the drive-through. The application will be determined by planners later in the year.

3. EV TIP: HOLD OFF THE HEAT

One of the things your battery is used for is heating the car, therefore it makes sense that using the heating system can impact your car’s overall range. To avoid this, be sure to pre-heat your electric vehicle wherever possible, as outlined above. If you do have to heat up the car’s interior during a journey, consider only heating the seats and steering heel (if your car offers that as an option). On hot days, the air conditioning will also use some of your battery. Pre-cool wherever possible and opt to open a window over switching on the AC button — the additional aerodynamic drag will provide some efficient cooling without using any of your battery.

4. EV LAUNCH: DRIVE ELECTRIC

Skywell BE11 gets UK debut at Everything Electric show in Harrogate. At the recent Everything Electric North show in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, the new Skywell BE11 was given its UK debut. The Chinese built electric car is being imported by Innovation Automotive, experts in bringing over electric vehicles from other markets. The Skywell BE11 is expected to start appearing on UK roads from September 2024 and comes in a choice a single trim but two battery pack sizes.

6. EV EVENT: EV RALLY

Bringing ‘old school’ back to the future! Before the days of SatNav, there were things called road maps… A-to-Z Road Maps. And 2024 sees the EV Rally embrace the AtoZ theme, travelling through towns and cities, in alphabetical order! Beginning in the Midlands, we will travel clockwise, through the Lake District, across the far north of England into the north-east, before heading south into Yorkshire.

Until next time. Have a fantastic week!
