EV Tuesday Week 187

EV Tuesday Week 187

It's EV Tuesday!

12th August 2025

Good morning EV Tuesday community!

This week we have had a tip in from one of our lovely readers, we hope you find it useful. It's about charging your car overnight and the low costs. As usual, in the newsletter, you will find a great app to use, a podcast about America's EV Charging Boom to listen to and a review of one of the latest cars.

Now is the time to relax for 15 minutes as you read through EV Tuesday and listen to the podcast, you may want to do that whilst you are driving your car!

We will be posting this to our social media channels including Facebook, Twitter & Reddit (check out r/evcables subreddit). If you have access to our blog, you will get an extra item :)

Right, ready.....steady.........GO!!

Feedback, Requests, Questions?
As always, please give us feedback on Twitter. Which item is your favourite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Just send a tweet to @ev_cables and put #EVTuesdays at the end so we can find it.

Have a great week everyone and happy reading!

1. EV APP OF THE WEEK: EASYCHARGING

easyCharging mobile app makes it easy to search for local fast charging points near you or when planning a longer journey. You will also benefit from competitive prices and a better charging experience when you register and use our app. Find DC charging stations for your Cupra, BMW, Porsche or Tesla and charge your EV whenever you need.

2. EV NEWS: GOV.UK

First car models approved for £1,500 discount to turbocharge the move to electric. The Electric Car Grant will make owning an electric car cheaper, easier and a reality for thousands more people across the UK. Drivers across the UK can save £1,500 on new electric vehicles, with the first eligible models confirmed today (5 August 2025), as government makes owning an EV cheaper and easier for thousands of people.

3. EV TIP: FROM ONE OF OUR READERS REGARDING RANGE ANXIETY

I have wanted an EV for some time but I have been put off by "range anxiety" (and the price sometimes charged for electricity when away from home). Most hybrid batteries had ranges of 25-30 miles but the game changer for me was finding a hybrid with a 75 mile battery at a good price - the MG HS PHEV. I charge from a 13a socket between midnight and 7am at the Eon Next rate of 6.7p/kWh (and saving by not getting a 7kW charging point). On the few occasions when I go on a longer journey I don't even bother taking a charging lead. You are not really conscious of the petrol engine coming on to charge the battery, except for the rev counter appearing on the screen.

4. EV PODCAST: INSIDE EVS

America’s EV Charging Boom Isn’t Slowing Down. Patrick and Tim kick off this week’s show by talking about one area of the EV world that isn’t slowing down—and that’s charging. The U.S. is adding fast chargers at a record pace this year, despite the end of the EV tax credit and other headwinds. Then they unpack the EPA’s controversial proposal to axe its “endangerment finding” on climate change. Will getting rid of greenhouse gas emission rules for cars and trucks actually create more consumer choice in America?

Finally, the guys dig into the future of hands-free driver assistance systems, which are now the most in-demand feature among car buyers.

5. EV REVIEW: INDEPENDENT

MG IM6

MG IM6. 2026 MG IM6 could be the new plug-in hybrid hero with a huge driving range that dwarves the BYD Sealion 6 and new Toyota RAV4 PHEV. The IM6 is a smart-looking all-electric SUV with a vague hint of the Aston Martin DBX about it, especially at the back. The quality of the paintwork is good, and that extends to the materials used inside. The IM6 feels properly posh. There’s plenty of space inside, too, along with a decent-sized boot. And when you start to tot up the tech it’s pretty much as good as anything else at this price, and better in some ways.
